Trust the Process

Trust the Process

Introduction

Welcome to another amazing week! How has this week been for you? Have you been able to inject some routine or tips around your daily sleep routine? Has the increased movement to your daily routine had a positive impact on your sleep? It typically has a positive impact for me, but I’d love to hear your experiences. Remember this is a journey which will take time. While I share weekly tips and suggestions for new topics, it may take longer than a week to find time to test them out. While I strongly suggest you do introduce these concepts, I equally understand life is lifing and constantly throwing us curveballs which can more our focus elsewhere.

Now that I have outlined some foundational aspects to focus on in your health and wellness journey, I wanted to touch on an important concept that can sometimes trip us up. If you have been following these tips for the past few weeks, you would definitely want to see progress and positive changes in your life. You would be reasonable to expect to see these changes each day. I wanted to pause and explore the possibility that you won’t see positive changes every day and in fact at times you may stumble.

Why is the process not a simple straight line?

1. Biological Adaptations and Plateaus

As you begin any new fitness or health regimen, your body undergoes numerous adaptations. It will need to make adjustments to its new experiences.  Initially, you may experience rapid progress, but as your body adjusts, progress can slow down or even plateau. This can easily be discouraging and make it seem like you're no longer making progress.

It is important to be patient and kind to yourself. As you are embarking on a new journey, give yourself some grace and realise chhanges won’t happen overnight. Diversify your routine. Incorporate different types of exercises, vary the intensity, and make gradual adjustments to your diet. Remember these are a normal part of the process, BUT pushing through them is essential for long-term success.

2. Mental and Emotional Challenges

The mental and emotional aspects of changing your lifestyle are often the most challenging. Stress, lack of motivation, and self-doubt can all create significant obstacles.

It is crucial to practice self-compassion and mindfulness. Set realistic goals and celebrate small victories. If you can, try to incorporate stress-relief techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or yoga into your routine. Surround yourself with a supportive community. If its not me or this community, find one whether through friends, family, or online groups, to stay motivated and accountable. Having accountability partners is such a wonderful boost to this process especially when you are having a more challenging day.

3. Lifestyle Interference

Life is unpredictable, and various responsibilities and unforeseen events can disrupt your routine. Work commitments, family obligations, and social events can all interfere with your health and fitness plans.

Plan and prioritize. Create a flexible but structured schedule that allows you to accommodate unexpected events without completely derailing your progress. Batch cook meals, keep healthy snacks on hand, and find short, effective workouts that you can fit into your day, even when time is limited.

4. Lack of Immediate Gratification

In a world where instant results are often expected, the gradual nature of health and fitness improvements can be frustrating. The lack of immediate visible changes can lead to discouragement and abandonment of efforts.

Shift your focus from short-term results to long-term benefits. Keep a journal to track your progress, noting improvements in energy levels, mood, and overall well-being, even if the scale doesn't budge immediately. Set process-oriented goals, such as completing a certain number of workouts per week, rather than solely focusing on outcome-based goals like weight loss.

Focus on your mindset—lock that in, and you become unstoppable. A strong mindset and a clear focus on your goals will equip you to handle any challenges that come your way. Challenges are inevitable, so be prepared. Keep moving forward, one step at a time, and celebrate every milestone. It's not just about the results; the process matters just as much.
